I work in several ways:
I’m employed as Head of Design at Michael Young Studio in Hong Kong.
I occasionally design other things for brands around the world, (those can be found on this website).
I also have a workshop in Hong Kong where I hand make furniture, art installations and other odds and ends. (pictured below) I call this endeavour Weekend Vice, as its mainly a late nights and weekends space to clamp things.
My bio: Australian born Hong Kong-based designer, Ben McCarthy, earned his degree in industrial design from The University of New South Wales in Sydney. After a couple of years in London at Tom Dixon’s studio, he moved to Hong Kong to work with British born designer Michael Young. As Design Director, McCarthy has driven many key studio projects since 2007 for some of the worlds biggest brands and helped with the studio several important design awards. As a freelancer and workshop owner, McCarthys side project work has also earned him several significant awards such as the German Design Award in 2016, Grants from the Australian Council and British council, a solo exhibition in Sydney and had pieces in many group exhibitions world wide.
